International Oil and Gas University prepares new generation of specialists for the oil and gas industry

Academic studies have commenced at the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International Oil and Gas University under a new Master’s degree program in the field of 5.37.04.33 «Economics and Management of the Oil and Gas Industry», developed in accordance with the modern requirements of the oil and gas sector. The new Master’s program is one of the practical outcomes of the higher education institution's participation in international educational projects under the European Union’s Erasmus+ program. The first group of Master's students is studying under specialization 5.37.04.33-01 «Economics and Management of the Oil and Gas Industry (ESG Strategies)», developed within the framework of the Erasmus+ ESGCA project — «Bridging Environmental Concerns, Societal Needs and Good Governance in Central Asian Education and Employment Sectors». This specialization aims to train professionals with up-to-date knowledge and competencies in the environmental, social, and governance aspects of oil and gas operations, environmental and social risk assessment, corporate governance, and responsible business practices. The second group of Master's students has begun training under specialization 5.37.04.33-02 «Economics and Management of the Oil and Gas Industry (Sustainable Development of the Oil and Gas Industry)», developed and implemented using the approaches and educational outcomes of the Erasmus+ GDCAU project — "Green Deal for Central Asian Universities». This specialization focuses on studying modern approaches to the long-term sustainable development of the oil and gas sector, rational use of natural resources, environmental impact reduction, energy efficiency enhancement, and the adoption of «green» economy principles. During their initial practical sessions, the Master's students became acquainted with the organization of the study process and the specifics of practical training. Special emphasis in the educational process is placed on practice-oriented learning, the development of analytical and research competencies, and the application of modern approaches to ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) and sustainable development. The new Master’s program in 5.37.04.33 «Economics and Management of the Oil and Gas Industry» was introduced at the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International Oil and Gas University for the 2026–2027 academic year. Based on the results of the entrance examinations, 50 candidates were enrolled in the Master's program.
